A short history of St.Thomas school
St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School, 33/34, Stringer Street, Broadway, Chennai 600 108 is owned by the Chennai Parish of the St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral and managed by the St. Thomas Orthodox Syrian Cathedral Educational and Charitable Trust. The St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School had its origin in the year of 1958 in a small nursery and elementary school with just one class, one teacher and seventeen students. The school slowly developed and in 1964 there were 185 students with seven classes. With the blessings of our patron St. Thomas, the school progressed in leaps and bounds.
The School got its recognition from the government in the year 1982. The first batch of standard X students appeared for the examination in the year 1984. The First batch of standard XII Arts stream students appeared for the Higher Secondary examination in the year 1988. The First batch of standard XII Science stream students appeared for the Higher Secondary examination in the year 1993. Excellent results were produced in both standard X and standard XII.
The school became popular and this necessitated a further change to better facilities. The then principals and teachers were highly instrumental in the steady progress of the school. The school expanded its buildings to provide more facilities and opportunities to the students and the teachers. The laboratories, library, sports activities, smart class and projects like the science club, eco club, fine arts club, etc. were initiated with a view to create in the youngsters initiative and the incentive to know more about things to learn. With these extra facilities the school has become a full fledged school in all respects.
The school celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year 2007. More innovative teaching methods are carried out for an improved teaching learning output. The school has risen to greater heights catering to the needs of matriculation syllabus pursuing students.
A team of dedicated and committed teachers will continue to strive hard to keep the name of the school flying high always.

When our students leave the school they go out with a deep rooted faith in God and this will keep him safe from harm and evil and give them the best in their life.
